Main Function & Applications
ISO 105-E04 is a colour-fastness test, not a metal-release test, and it needs two solutions. A specimen of the textile or leather is sandwiched with a multifibre adjacent fabric, wetted with the acid solution at pH 5.5 in one run and the alkaline solution at pH 8.0 in another, then held under a fixed load in a perspirometer at 37 °C for four hours. Two ratings come out of it: the change in shade of the specimen and the staining of each fibre in the adjacent fabric, both read on the grey scales. Because the acid and alkaline results are reported separately, both solutions are needed for a complete report, which is why this is supplied as a kit rather than as a single bottle. ISO 105-B07 uses the same solutions for combined light-and-perspiration exposure.
