Main Function & Applications
EN 1811 is run on the finished article. The exposed surface area A is measured in cm² and the sample is immersed at a ratio of 1 mL of solution per cm², in a sealed vessel held at 30.0 ± 1.0 °C for 168 hours in the dark, without agitation. The solution is then analysed by ICP-MS or FAAS against certified nickel standards and the result expressed in µg/cm²/week. For coated or plated articles the sample is normally aged first by the wear-and-corrosion simulation of EN 12472, and conformity is judged on the aged sample, so plan two sets of specimens and twice the solution volume. Because the acceptance limit is 0.5 µg/cm²/week (0.2 for post assemblies), the metal background of the sweat itself has to be low enough not to consume the budget: that is what the certified low-nickel background on our Certificate of Analysis is for.

Common questions about this product
What is Artificial Sweat, EN 1811 made of?
Synelys Biotech Artificial Sweat, EN 1811 is an aqueous solution of NaCl 5.0 g/L, Urea 1.0 g/L, DL-lactic acid (> 88 %) 1.0 g/L, Ultrapure, low metal-background water. It is the reference solution defined by EN 1811 (equivalents: BS EN 1811:2023, NF EN 1811, DIN EN 1811), made fresh to order in Toulouse, France and shipped with a Certificate of Analysis on every batch.
What pH is it supplied at, and can it be adjusted?
Artificial Sweat, EN 1811 is supplied at pH 6.50 ± 0.05 at 20 °C, fixed by the standard. pH is verified batch by batch and the measured value appears on the Certificate of Analysis.
Is it hazardous to ship or store?
No. Artificial Sweat, EN 1811 is non-classified · non-ADR, so there is no dangerous-goods constraint on shipping. Store at 15–25 °C, no cold chain. Shelf life 6 months from manufacture · no preservative, which is what keeps the nickel background clean. Supplied in a HDPE bottle (PP cap), case of 4 × 1 L for volume. HS code for your purchase order: 3822.90.00.
